New Policy Brief | In Their Own Words: Students, teachers and frontline education providers on the devastating impact of aid cuts

The Geneva Hub for EiE, INEE the GEC and partners released a new policy brief containing a collection of stories from students, teachers and frontline education providers recounting their lived experiences of aid cuts.

Their testimonials reveal that reductions in education assistance do not represent a marginal cut to the humanitarian response, rather a structural rupture with far-reaching consequences. The withdrawal of funding has already resulted in school closures, increased drop-out rates, teacher layoffs and the fracture or loss of multisectoral services that schools provide, pushing millions of children further from their right to safe, quality education and deepening vulnerabilities for those already most at risk, particularly girls.

And yet, the funding crisis has also illuminated the resilience of students and the commitment of teachers and local actors to education in emergency settings.

Their message to the international community is clear: don’t abandon education.
