The Elevating Education in Emergencies series, organized by the Global Education Cluster, Permanent Mission of Switzerland to the UN and Permanent Mission of Norway to the UN, seeks to galvanize increased attention for, and advocate for the prioritization of, education in humanitarian responses.
The series, comprised of four High Level Meeting, running from 2018-2020. The meetings unpacked distinct thematic issues by bringing together practitioners from diverse country, regional and global contexts:
- The inaugural meeting, which took place in June 2018, explored the protective role of education to highlight its critical contributions to the protection, dignity and development of children and youth living in emergency contexts;
- The second meeting, which took place in November 2018, unpacked how innovative methods like cash and voucher assistance can strengthen education in emergencies delivery to help the sector meet the needs of more children and youth;
- The third meeting, which took place in June 2019, examined how local partners can contribute to strengthening education in emergencies programming to better respond to the needs of crisis affected children and youth while also contributing to more inclusive, equitable and accountable partnerships;
- The final instalment in the series, to take place in 2020, will examine the humanitarian-development nexus.
