2024 Annual Partners Meeting

In 2019, 57% of ten-year-olds in low- and middle-income countries were unable to read basic texts. COVID-19-related school closures and other disruptions have deepened the global learning crisis, which is felt sharply by girls and boys affected by crises. A staggering 87% of children attending primary and lower secondary school in emergencies do not meet minimum proficiency benchmarks. These concerning figures underscore the need to strengthen our focus on learning in education in emergencies. To address this, a coordinated approach focused on foundational literacy, numeracy, and socio-emotional learning is crucial.

The Global Education Cluster will hold its 2024 Annual Partners Meeting in Istanbul, Turkiye, from the 3rd to the 4th of October 2024, around the theme of Learning in Crisis: Collective action to advance learning through coordinated EiE responses.

The Annual Partners Meeting will provide an opportunity to explore the Cluster's role in supporting learning, identifying key steps and mobilizing partnerships to drive them forward through collective action. The specific objectives of the meeting are to:

  • Clarify the Education Cluster’s role in supporting learning in emergencies and collaborating with other actors in the EiE ecosystem.
  • Inspire the GEC and country clusters to commit to specific, actionable collective efforts that prioritize learning in coordinated EiE responses.

These outcomes will lead to an updated roadmap for learning in emergencies that articulates collective actions specifying the role of the GEC, Country Education Clusters/Working Groups, and partners to drive progress towards improved learning through coordinated and quality EiE responses.
